On a Tuesday morning in December I came up to my desk, coffee in hand and opened my email. In the mix of junk mail, client mail and miscellaneous I came across an email with the subject line “Galeria Ida Victoria has been featured on Culture Trip!” I assumed this was a ploy to sign the gallery up for some list that would at some point lead me to a window to plop in my credit card info to be listed on a website. I was thrilled to learn that no, they didn’t want me to pay anything, the gallery was included on a list of only 10- “THE TOP ART GALLERIES ACROSS MEXICO YOU MUST VISIT.” I quickly opened the link and was honored to discover the gallery was featured alongside such top art galleries and museums as The MARCO (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey) in Monterrey, Mexico, Museo Soumaya, in Mexico D.F. and MACO, Oaxaca’s Museum of Contemporary Art.
This is what contributor Lauren Cocking wrote about the gallery: “Moving over to the other side of the country, we find San José del Cabo’s Galería Ida Victoria, which specializes in exhibiting the work of both emerging and established artists and has regularly been voted the best art gallery in the region – impressive, when you consider the artsy reputation of the area! Every taste is catered for here, but it seems that most of the represented artists are drawn to vibrant, eclectic styles that make for beautifully bright and appealing pieces.”
No doubt this made my day!!! Not only were only 10 galleries chosen to make this list, but Galeria de Ida Victoria was the only gallery chosen on the whole Baja Peninsula! Super proud…didn’t even know they were at the gallery…best Tuesday ever!
So now I wanted to learn more about Culture Trip. What a cool website! Their tagline is “see the world without leaving your inbox.” It is a startup with the goal of “inspiring millions of people to explore the world’s culture and creativity through innovative technology and our global network of local content creators.” A London based company, Culture Trip now boasts over 11 million site visitors and 200 social media users per month. Their articles are cool and the corresponding imagery and photography makes the site not only informative but some serious eye candy. I highly recommend searching the site for inside tips and info for any trip you plan in the future.
